But Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president Cheryl Boone Isaacs instead said “Dick Poop” was nominated, before correcting herself.

Pope spoke to USA Today later in the day about the flub.

“You know what, I have been called a lot worse in my time,” said Pope. “I don’t think twice about anything like that. I am happy to be nominated.”

In fact, it’s not the first time he’s heard the name mistake.

“You don’t need to explain it to me. I have had it explained 100 times,” said Pope. “I feel sorry for the lady who made the mispronunciation.”

A call to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences regarding the flub was not returned.

So, who is the real Dick Pope?

Pope is a 67-year-old cinematographer from England, and this is not his first time being nominated for an Oscar.

His work on 2006’s The Illusionist also earned him a nod, and he’s been in the business since 1980.

In 1994, he worked on Kevin Bacon’s film The Air Up There. In 2000, he worked on The Way of the Gun, starring Ryan Phillippe and Benicio del Toro. He also worked alongside fellow 2015 Oscar nominee Richard Linklater on Bernie just four years ago as director of photography, according to IMDb.

Mr. Turner was not his only film this year. He also helped complete Cuban Fury.

What’s next for Pope?

He has films Legend and Angelica coming out this year, starring the likes of Tom Hardy and Jena Malone.
