Report: Brewers Sign LHP Dontrelle Willis
Published at(MILWAUKEE) — The Milwaukee Brewers have signed left-handed pitcher Dontrelle Willis to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, according to ESPN.
The 33-year-old last appeared in the major leagues in 2011 with the Cincinnati Reds, where he went 1-6 with a 5.00 ERA. He struck out 57 batters and walked 37 in 75 2-3 innings of work.
Willis made his big league debut in 2003 with the Florida Marlins, compiling a record of 14-6 with a 3.30 ERA. He won the National League Rookie of the Year award and was named to the NL All-Star team.
In 2005, Willis finished second to St. Louis’ Chris Carpenter in the NL Cy Young Award voting after going 22-10 with a 2.63 ERA. He also recorded seven complete games, five of them shutouts.
