US Navy Ship Runs Aground Near Japan

012215 USNavyShip?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1421966998280U.S. Navy File photo. Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Roadell Hickman(OKINAWA, Japan) — A U.S. Navy ship ran aground six miles off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, on Thursday morning.

It was not immediately clear what caused the ship to run aground. The Navy says there are 38 civilian crew members on board, as well as 67 U.S. Army personnel and 26 U.S. Marine Corps personnel.

The Navy is working with Japanese authorities “to determine the best course of action to refloat the vessel,” according to a news release. No leaks have been found in the ship’s hull and no damage to the surrounding area was reported. No injuries were reported in the incident.
