Obama Jokes with Governors, 2016 Hopefuls at Luncheon

Getty 022315 PresObamaGOPGovs?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1424722825874JIM WATSON/AFP/Getty Images(WASHINGTON) — President Obama found himself in the same room as some notable 2016 hopefuls on Monday, hosting a luncheon for the National Governors’ Association at the White House.

The president joked with the group about their campaigns, saying, “I’m in the fourth quarter of my presidency, or as some of you may call it, the kickoff for your campaign season,” drawing a few laughs.

“But I think there’s still a lot that we can get done together,” Obama told the crowd, which included Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, among others.

The president also used the occasion to stump for a Department of Homeland Security funding bill.

“They will not be able to spend that money in your states,” Obama said of DHS workers who will go without paychecks unless Congress passes and Obama signs a funding bill, citing a “direct impact on your economy.”
