White House Calls West Coast Ports Labor Agreement ‘A Huge Relief’
Published at(WASHINGTON) — The White House Press Secretary released a statement on Friday night, after the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association reached a labor agreement that would bring bring dock workers back to work after a strike.
In the statement, the White House called the agreement “great news for the parties involved…and a huge relief for our economy.” The statement also praised Labor Secretary Tomas Perez federal mediator Scot Beckenbaugh for their work helping to reach a deal.
The president is now calling for the union and the PMA to “work together to clear out the backlogs and congestion in the West Coast Ports as they finalize their agreement.”
