Apple Store Goes Down Ahead of Watch Event

Apple Inc.(SAN FRANCISCO) — Hours before the big Apple Watch event in San Francisco today, the company has taken its store offline — leaving behind a message that “we’ll be back.”
“We’re busy updating the Apple Store for you and will be back soon,” a message on the store’s website says.
Apple typically shuts down its digital store before a major announcement — and today’s will be a historic one for the company as it is expected to share more information about its first ever wearable device.
ABC’s Neal Karlinsky notes that the team working on the watch includes people from the fashion world, including the CEO of Burberry, and has touted the wearable device at Paris Fashion Week. “It seems to be the first Apple device so far promoted for its looks more than what it can actually do,” Karlinsky says.
There are plenty of details about the watch that simply aren’t known, such as how long the battery will last and exactly what its capabilities are, among other things. Monday may bring those answers.
What we do know is that there will be three models, including a Starter version that will sell for $349. The high-end version, the Edition, will come in 18 karat gold. Experts from the technology and fashion industries speculate that it could cost anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000 — which could make it Apple’s most expensive product.
Monday’s event will be streamed live at 1 p.m. ET Monday on the Apple website.
