According to a press release from the station, a civilian aircraft crashed onto one of the station’s runways just before 12 p.m. local time. The crash “impacted a government vehicle, resulting in a Marine fatality.” The station did not identify the Marine, who was pronounced dead upon arrival at Yuma Regional Medical Center.

The pilot and passenger of the aircraft were examined and released by emergency services personnel.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the Marine we lost in this tragic accident,” MCAS Yuma’s Commanding Officer Col. Ricardo Martinez said. “We, at MCAS Yuma, stand ready to provide support to his family.”
