The South African-born 26-year-old was racing behind Giorgia Bronzini during the Molecaten Drentse 8 race Thursday when a spectator reached out towards her with an arm. The cyclist flew head-first, landing on the asphalt.

Rowney was eventually treated by doctors present at the race, and later expressed her gratitude for people’s support via Twitter, saying, “I’ll try and get back to you all…it’s hard with 1 arm! on my way to Hamburg for treatment.”

Several media reports suggested she suffered a broken collarbone.

Video showed her crawling across the finish line, and she reportedly finished in seventh place.
