Wimbledon: Serena Williams Defeats Heather Watson in Three Sets
Published at | Updated at(LONDON) — Serena Williams was forced to three sets against Heather Watson in the third round of Wimbledon Friday, but managed to come out on top to continue her quest towards winning a Grand Slam.
Williams, the top-seeded player, beat Britain’s Watson 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
She will now play her sister, Venus Williams, in the fourth round.
Should Serena Williams win at Wimbledon and then the US Open later this summer, she would become the first player to win all four legs of the Grand Slam in the same year since Steffi Graf did it in 1988.
Williams defeated Maria Sharapova and Lucie Safarova earlier this year to win the Australian Open and French Open, respectively.
