CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Soda “Firewhirl” shoots 100 foot flames into air
Published at | Updated atBOISE – A wild “fire whirl” was caught on camera this weekend as crews battled the massive Soda fire.
Firefighter Craig Fluer posted the video on his Instagram account Saturday. He wrote, “Saw a #firewhirl for the first time last night. This sucker was shooting flames 100 ft in the air before it passed right in front of the line, all while dropping hot dirt and ash on our helmets.”
Cooler weather Monday is helping crews fighting the blaze. Officials say the 283,686-acre fire is 70 percent contained and could be under control by midweek.
27 horses were killed near Salmon Creek about 45 miles southwest of Boise, when they were caught in the fast-moving fire.
With more wildfires burning around the region, the crews working on the Soda Fire could immediately be reassigned to another blaze.
