SWAN VALLEY – A man was killed and a girl was injured when a single engine plane crashed near Swan Valley Thursday night.

Two people were inside the plane that went down near Palisades Reservoir around 5:15 p.m. Officials say the girl inside the plane called 911 before the crash.

Bonneville County Sheriff Sgt. Jeff Edwards says the pilot’s body is still trapped inside the plane and crews are working to determine how to get him out.

“The plane crashed about three miles into the backcountry in a dense, tree-covered area,” Edwards said. “This is now a recovery effort.

The girl, whose age is unknown, was airlifted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Her condition is unknown.

Crews will return to the crash scene Friday morning and attempt to recover the body from the wreckage. Search efforts have been called off for the night.

Names have not been released and it’s unknown why the plane crashed.
