IDAHO FALLS – A man convicted in the kidnapping and assault of an Idaho Falls man is facing more charges after a fight at the county jail.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said Devin Crawford, 24, attacked co-defendant Ivan Sandoval, 20, with a blunt object Monday. Deputies intervened and stopped the fight. Both Crawford and Sandoval suffered minor injuries and were treated by jail medical staff.

Now Crawford faces additional felony charges of intimidating a witness and possession of contraband in a correctional facility.

Crawford had been scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday, but questions about the fight in the jail and how it would affect the plea agreement pushed the sentencing back to May.

He had pleaded guilty to a felony kidnapping charge and felony use of a deadly weapon Jan. 28. Court records show Crawford aided in the kidnapping and attack of Brandon Bykonen in August 2015. He taunted Bykonen with a hatchet by rubbing the sharp edge across the Bykonen’s skin, then attacked him with the hatchet, resulting in loss of some of Bykonen’s fingers and disfigurement to his hands.
