REXBURG – The FBI is issuing new information on a man who committed armed robberies in five states over the course of three years.
He’s been called the AK-47 Bandit, and robbed East Idaho Credit Union in Rexburg on Nov. 7, 2012.

Four years ago, he shot a Chino, California, police officer during a bank robbery.

In partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Chino Police Department has re-issued an updated video on the AK-47 Bandit in an effort to generate leads on the identity and whereabouts of the suspect.

The updated video highlights the cross-country crime spree of the AK-47 Bandit that began in Chino on Feb. 29, 2012. During the robbery at the California Bank and Trust in Chino, the suspect, wearing body armor and carrying an AK-47 assault rifle, shot and severely injured a Chino police officer.

Since that initial robbery, the AK-47 Bandit has committed five additional robberies and one attempted robbery in the states of California, Washington, Idaho, Nebraska and Iowa. The most recent robbery occurred on July 28, 2015 in Mason City, Iowa.

“The AK-47 Bandit is dangerous and violent,” states Chino Police Chief Karen Comstock. “This case remains a priority for our department and we will relentlessly pursue every lead until he is brought to justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to call (909) 628-1234, (855) 9-BANDIT or bandit@chinopd.org.

A reward of up to $125,000 is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the AK-47 Bandit.
