Homes evacuated in Idaho Falls due to gas leak

IDAHO FALLS – A handful of homes have been evacuated near Sunnyside Elementary due to a gas leak.
Officials say a construction crew hit a main gas line around 9:25 a.m. causing 4-5 homes on Cobblestone Lane and Brookside Drive in the Stonebrook neighborhood to be evacuated. A heavy gas smell is permeating the air in the neighborhood.
Crews have to drain the gas line before repairs can be made, according to officials on scene. The leak is not affecting Sunnyside Elementary and classes are being held as usual.
The public is asked to avoid the area.
