ISU graduate student creates hair-repairing formula

POCATELLO – When people think of cosmetology, they often think of hair-spray, perms or blow driers.

But what about chemistry?

One ISU graduate student is proving that when you put the two together, amazing things can happen.

For years, Pocatello native Camie Parsons has spent almost all her time in an ISU chemistry lab to fix a problem a lot of people can relate to: damaged hair.

She got the idea when working as a hair stylist. One of her clients came in with her hair literally melting off. Parsons said it was a life-changing moment.

“You’re beautiful when your hair is good, you feel beautiful, you’re more confident,” said Parsons, “When your hair is bad, the reverse happens, and it damages your self-esteem. And then…I thought, ‘there has to be a better way. I can do this. I can find a way to fix this.’”

Parsons succeeded. She created a revolutionary formula that repairs the cell membrane complex of damaged hair, and returns it to its silk, smooth, undamaged state.

“When I got the formula perfected, I just sat down and cried. I couldn’t believe that I had done it,” said Parsons.

Parsons isn’t your typical student. She’s not only a mom, but a single mom of four.

She said that despite the nights she was forced to spend away from her kids, they did nothing but love and support her.

“My kids think I’m the coolest thing,” said Parsons, “They love bringing their friends to my house and they’re like, ‘This is my mom! She has a patent.'”

Her patented formula is called “Duality,” and she’s launched a company called “IUVENI” to sell the product.

Parsons’ company now operates out of Boston and Pocatello.

But through it all, her goal has stayed the same.

Parsons said, “If I could help women feel beautiful? No contest.”

Duality will not be available for the general public, but, it could be coming to your hair salon, as Parsons plans to sell it to all professional hair stylists.
