St. Anthony — A Utah man accused of drugging and raping an adult female family member has now been charged with an additional crime.

Jacob Galen Oberg, 26, is charged with one count of felony perjury after he allegedly filled out paperwork saying he has never been convicted of a felony, according to court documents obtained by EastIdahoNews.com.

Fremont County Detectives received a document dated June 26 where Oberg petitioned to have his Utah juvenile criminal record expunged.

A question on the document seen by EastIdahoNews.com says:

“I have never been convicted of a felony level criminal offense or of a misdemeanor level offense involving moral turpitude and there is no pending felony level or misdemeanor level offense against me.”

Prior to this question, detectives point out there is a statement saying, “Being first duly sworn, I say as follows (Check all that apply).”

Oberg allegedly checked the box but he actually had been convicted of felonies in Utah including burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle, according court documents.

Oberg was also charged at the time for felony rape in Fremont County. This case is still pending and a second jury trial will be held on Jun. 8, 2019 after a trial this week that resulted in a hung jury.

Oberg was arraigned on the new charges the day after his rape trial ended. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 7 for a preliminary hearing.
