IDAHO FALLS — Light snow is falling throughout eastern Idaho Thursday morning causing slick roads and some minor snow accumulation.

The National Weather Service predicts snow levels are expected to gradually rise through the morning as the precipitation shifts east toward the Wyoming border this afternoon, according to the forecast.

Snow accumulation of up to three inches is possible today on area highways running up into the higher elevation areas along the Idaho/Wyoming border. Motorists encountering snow covered roadways should use caution and slow down to give yourself extra time and distance to react to adverse conditions.

As of 8:30 a.m. Thursday, the Idaho Transportation Department was showing light snow or ice on most of the major highways in eastern Idaho including Interstate 15, U.S. Highway 20, U.S. Highway 26 and Idaho Highway 33, among others.

Heavier snowfall is expected Friday particularly in the following communities: Preston, Montpelier, Soda Springs, Henry,
Bone, Victor, Ashton, Driggs, Island Park, Salmon, Lemhi, and Tendoy.

Those higher elevation communities may see between 5 to 15 inches of snow starting late Thursday night until late Friday night. Significant reductions in visibility are possible, and travel along mountain passes will be dangerous.
