Salt Lake airport construction worker falls 40 feet down elevator shaft

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A 50-year-old man fell 40 feet in an elevator shaft while working at a construction site at the Salt Lake City International Airport Wednesday morning, officials said.

Nancy Volmer, spokeswoman for the airport, said the incident happened about 10:20 a.m. in an elevator shaft that is part of the airport construction. The airport is in the middle of expanding more terminals.

The man, who is an employee of Holder-Big D Construction, was transported to the hospital. His condition was not immediately released.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, Volmer said in a tweet.
