ISP investigating officer-involved shooting in Weiser

The following is a news release from Idaho State Police.

On Feb. 2, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Weiser Police officers responded to a 911 call for help in the 1400 block of W. 4th Street regarding a person in a residence who was unwelcome in the home.

When a Weiser officer made contact with the man, the man pulled a semiautomatic handgun and pointed it at the officer. The Weiser officer fired one round from his duty pistol, striking the subject.

Weiser officers immediately began administering life-saving measures and called for medics.

The male subject was first transported to Weiser Memorial Hospital, then to St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise for treatment.

The Idaho State Police is investigating this officer-involved shooting incident. The incident was captured by the Weiser officer’s body camera.

The investigation is expected to take approximately 3-4 weeks and then will be submitted to a prosecutor for review.
