Van plunges into canal at troublesome intersection

  Published at  | Updated at

BONNEVILLE COUNTY — The driver of a minivan crashed into a canal at the intersection of East 49th South and Ammon Road Friday evening.

Nobody was seriously injured, according to Bonneville County Sheriff Sgt. Bryan Lovell, but deputies and an ambulance were called to the scene.

The intersection has created problems in the past as three cars ended up in the same canal within two days of each other in 2017. Neighbors created a petition to have stop signs or traffic lights installed in the area and county leaders promised to address the issue.

Neighbors tell EastIdahoNews.com flashing lights were added to two stop signs after the 2017 incidents but they believe something more needs to be done.
