‘Oops, Google screwed up!’ Mom makes sign after CenturyLink customers show up at her doorstep

IDAHO FALLS — Jamie Parry has lived in her neighborhood for two years, but for the last three months, she’s been having to kick CenturyLink customers off her lawn.

That’s because, in her words “Google screwed up,” and listed her home on 20th Street in Idaho Falls, as the closest CenturyLink office for those in the area. CenturyLink is an internet, landline, and cable service provider.

“For the most part… it’s been humorous,” Jamie says. “I’ve kind of worried about my kids — maybe an agitated customer comes to my house — you know? (I’ve had) safety concerns.”

Jamie and her family don’t know how or when this blunder happened. When the CenturyLink blackout happened right after Christmas the number concerned customers coming to her home began to pick up.

“We had five people come to the house and I was kind of done. I just wanted people to know I feel bad for them too,” Jamie says.

That’s the day she made the sign that reads, “Oops! Google screwed up! This is NOT Century Link, but you can find them at 1915 North Boulevard.” Currently, the sign still sits in her front driveway and she says it’s helped divert visitors.

“I’ve seen people drive by, slow down, look at it and go on their way,” Parry says, and the visits have lessened.

People have even wanted to pay their bills at times and Jamie says many packages of returned routers have been delivered. She’s urged delivery drivers to stop the continual flow of CenturyLink routers to her home and Jamie was thrilled when a package belonging to her finally came through.

“Our UPS guy he actually put a stop to it because we were getting a lot of packages for them,” Jamie says.

Jamie says she tried to edit the address setting on Google herself but had no luck, she’s posted on Facebook about the error and even went to the local office to change the online listing.

“I’ve had friends try to correct it,” Jamie says.

To her relief, it looks like her address was finally changed Thursday.

“I went to look at it today, and I couldn’t find us on there today so I’m hoping that’s a good sign.”
