Flood watch issued in eastern Idaho; possible snow in mountains
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS — It’s going to be a wet couple days in eastern Idaho.
Significant precipitation is expected in the region, which will manifest as snow and rain in the mountains, particularly above 8,000 feet.
As a result of rain falling on an increasingly warming snow pack, some sheet flooding is possible in several eastern Idaho valleys and in mountainous areas, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
A flood watch has been issued in the following counties: Butte, Clark, Fremont, Teton, eastern Bonneville, eastern Madison, eastern Bingham, Bannock, Caribou, Franklin, Oneida and Power. These areas will see rain on snow starting Monday evening through Tuesday. Up to 1 inch of rain is possible, and will cause rapid rises in small streams and possible flooding.
A more significant flood advisory has been issued in Blaine County due to rapidly melting mountain snow. Minor flooding, seepage, and ponding of water in low-lying areas near Silver Creek continues. Minor flooding will likely continue due to rising snow levels and additional rainfall. The advisory expires at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.
