Reckless driving leads to crash on I-15, police say

The following is a news release from Idaho State Police.

On Tuesday, Nov. 17, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a crash southbound on Interstate 15 at milepost 110, south of Idaho Falls.

A 2006 Honda Civic driven by Pedro Chavez-Carranza, 21, of Idaho Falls, and a 1995 Nissan pickup driven by Clint Underwood, 30, of Blackfoot, were engaged in reckless driving southbound on I15. Chavez-Carranza was tailgating Underwood and flashing his head lights when Underwood slammed on his brakes.

The Honda Civic crashed into the back of the Nissan pickup. Both drivers lost control of their vehicles. The pickup went into the median and rolled. The Honda spun out, then came to rest on the right shoulder.

A juvenile passenger from the Nissan pickup was transported via ground ambulance to Bingham Memorial Hospital. The juvenile passenger was in an improperly installed child safety restraint. The adult occupants in both vehicles were wearing seatbelts. Both drivers were cited.

Idaho State Police wants to remind drivers never to engage in reckless driving with another vehicle.

This crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
