Snowfall expected across eastern Idaho this weekend

IDAHO FALLS — A winter storm coming through eastern Idaho this weekend is now expected to deposit snow throughout the entire region Sunday.

The storm will start passing through eastern Idaho Saturday evening but will reach its maximum effect Sunday and Sunday night before tapering off Monday.

Previously, the snow was expected to stay mostly at the high elevations, but on Friday meteorologists updated the forecast. Snow is now expected in all of central and eastern Idaho regardless of elevation.

The valleys and lower elevations areas can expect between half an inch to three inches of snow.

Higher elevations might see up between six and 12 inches of snow. As a result, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the central Idaho mountains, the highlands bordering Montana and Yellowstone National Park, the Big Hole mountains, and the Bear River mountain range west of Bear Lake. Heavy drifting due to strong winds is possible in many of the higher elevation areas.
