Winter weather causes fatality crash on I-86

The following is a news release from Idaho State Police.

AMERICAN FALLS — Idaho State Police are investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on Interstate 86 at milepost 33, west of American Falls.

The crash occurred just after 11 a.m. Friday.

ISP report Kent Gwilliam, 68, of Burley was traveling westbound on I-86 in a 2008 Kenworth truck, pulling a single trailer.

Gwilliam’s vehicle hit a patch of ice, went off the left shoulder and continued across the median, coming to rest in the eastbound lanes. He was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to his injuries.

The eastbound lanes of travel were blocked for approximately four hours.
