BOISE — Gov. Brad Little and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare want Idahoans to be informed when it comes to the COVID-19 vaccine.

To do so, Little announced Wednesday he is directing IDHW to carry out weekly virtual press briefings regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. The first virtual COVID-19 vaccine briefing will take place Jan. 5.

“The availability of the safe COVID-19 vaccine is a lifeline in our pandemic fight, and I know there are a lot of questions about vaccine distribution,” Little said in a news release. “My administration is committed to transparency and getting out the best information on the vaccine as effectively as possible.”

Not only will the media be able to ask questions, but the public can listen and view the briefing online.

Details about the weekly press briefings, such as time and participation details will be shared by IDHW before each briefing.

“We want to make the safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine available to as many people as possible as quickly as possible,” IDHW Director Dave Jeppesen stated in the news release. “The best way to ensure that is to make sure Idahoans have the most up-to-date information we can provide so they know what to expect and when.”

As it stands right now, IDHW reports 13,686 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered. IDHW says the COVID-19 vaccine for the general public is expected to be available in spring or summer.
