‘Stuff the Truck’ non-perishable donation event coming to Rexburg

ASHTON — This year has left many people hungry and in need, and throughout December, Fall River Electric (FRE) is asking the community to help.

The utility will be hosting its third annual “Stuff the Truck” event, where it will bring a truck to four cities and ask for donations of non-perishable food items until the truck is, well … stuffed!

Last week, FRE’s drive in Ashton resulted in the largest amount of food donated ever to the North Fremont Food Pantry, and they are grateful for all who helped. However, the drive is not over.

This Friday, the 11th, the truck will be collecting donations at the Rexburg Broulim’s from 4 to 6 p.m.

Including this weekend, there will be three more collection events at the following locations:

  • Friday, Dec 11: Rexburg’s Broulim’s from 4 to 6 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec 18: West Yellowstone, Montana, at both the Food Roundup and the Market place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Dec 23: Driggs Broulim’s from 4 to 6 p.m.

Non-perishable food items can include pasta, cold cereal, peanut butter, and canned fruit and chicken.

Last year, the company was able to round up 3 tons of food, but in 2020, the need is stronger than ever.

“As we have checked into our local food pantries, they report the need for non-perishable food is now more than ever needed.” Fall River Electric CEO/General Manager Bryan Case said in a news release, “Now we need to help them.”

The utility is a cooperative business, meaning it is owned by the customers that the business serves. The customers elect a board of directors, which directs the annual affairs and hire a general manager.

“One of the principles of a cooperative is to care for the communities they are involved in and serve,” spokesman Ted Austin told EastIdahoNews.com.

If you want to donate but can’t make it to the grocery stores, you can always bring items to any of the three Fall River Electric locations in Ashton, Driggs, or West Yellowstone and deliver it Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Along with the food items, tax-deductible monetary donations can be made by calling the office at (208) 652-7431. The donations will go through its nonprofit arm, Helping Hands, and be delivered to the food bank of your choice.

Donations will go to benefit the food banks of the areas they are collected. They include the North Fremont Food Pantry in Ashton, Teton Valley Food Pantry in Driggs, the Rexburg Food Pantry and the social service food bank in West Yellowstone, Montana.
