AMMON — A couple thousand people are without power after a white SUV crashed into a power pole in Ammon Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. on South 45th East near Ladino Drive, Bonneville County Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Bryan Lovell said.

The impact knocked down the pole and nearby energized lines. Rocky Mountain Power spokeswoman Tiffany Erickson said around 2,400 customers lost power.

Erickson said a second crash caused a smaller outage for around 50 other customers in the Ammon area.

Rocky Mountain Power expects to have power back on by 9 p.m.

Deputies have closed 45th East at the First Street roundabout as well as north of the crash. People are asked to avoid the area.

A few people living off Ladino Drive are unable to enter or leave their neighborhood.
