IDAHO FALLS – Nearly 200 Rocky Mountain Power customers are in the dark after a car hit a power pole in Idaho Falls.

Rocky Mountain Power spokesman Dave Eskelsen tells EastIdahoNews.com the outage occurred at 6:58 a.m. and is affecting 192 customers, as of 2:30 p.m. An outage map on the company’s website shows it is concentrated mainly on the south side of town near Sunnyside Road.

Crews are working to repair the damage and restore power. It was originally estimated to be restored by noon. The revised restoration time is 4:15 p.m.

Sgt. Bryan Lovell with Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office says the outage likely occurred an hour earlier. The crash was initially reported at 6 a.m. and the person who called it in said their power was out.

Lovell confirms a car hit a power pole at 7352 South 15th West. The driver left the scene and deputies are still investigating to determine who was driving.
