IDAHO FALLS — Deputies arrested a Bonneville County man after he reportedly went on a rampage at a group home Tuesday night.

Deputies rushed to the home on Burke Circle around 7:45 p.m. where 21-year-old Cricelio Arteaga “was using anything he could find as a weapon and physically attacking other residents,” according to a Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The person who called for help was assisting residents in leaving the house when Arteaga got ahold of a knife. One of the residents in the house was reportedly asleep and staff could not reach them. While helping get residents out, a caregiver was hit in the back of the neck with a metal broom handle. The woman was bleeding from the nose and had a neck injury.

“The victim told deputies as she was getting others out of the residence, she believed Mr. Arteaga had struck several of them in the process,” the news release said.

Arteaga was found in the front room of the group home with a knife. Deputies say he did not respond to commands to drop the knife. Fearing for the safety of the sleeping resident, deputies used a bean bag shotgun and a Taser to stop the man.

He was taken into custody and checked out at Idaho Falls Community Hospital before being booked into the Bonneville County Jail for felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor charges of battery and resisting arrest.

Although Arteaga is accused of crimes it does not necessarily mean he committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
