RIGBY — A local business was significantly damaged by a large fire early Wednesday morning.

Central Fire District was called out to a fire at Tuck It Away Storage at 460 North Yellowstone Highway in Rigby at about 12:45 a.m.

Law enforcement deputies and officers were first on the scene. They reported active flames and heavy smoke coming from at least three storage units.

When firefighters arrived, they set up a defensive fire attack on the storage units, according to a department news release. Roll-up doors were breached, and firefighters extinguished the contents of the individual storage units. Thirteen storage units caught fire or were heavily damaged by smoke.

During the operation, one firefighter had to be taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for smoke inhalation. The firefighter was treated and released shortly afterward.

The cause of the fire is unknown but the incident is under investigation by the Idaho State Fire Marshal. There will be no public access to the storage unit while the fire investigation is being conducted.

A combined estimate of $225,000 was given for damages to the business and contents of the storage units.
