Rexburg’s Hemming Village to host ‘Hocus Pocus’ Halloween event

REXBURG — The staff at Hemming Village in Rexburg will be scaring up a good time for families and community members of all ages when they host their annual “Hocus Pocus” event this Friday.

“Hocus Pocus” is a free event that celebrates all things Halloween. Kids can come to trick-or-treat and show off their costumes while there will also be entertainment for adults. Hemming Village, a family business with Rexburg roots, puts on the event as a way to give back to the community.

“Our family loves doing this and it is so much fun,” Hemming Village spokeswoman Cami Wills told EastIdahoNews.com. “It is a lot of work, don’t get me wrong. But we’ve got some great sponsors this year, with Taylor Chevrolet being a big sponsor, Beehive Credit Union and Kettle Embroidery being sponsors and they’ve been a great support to us because it does cost a lot of money to put on a free event like this.”

This year, “Hocus Pocus” will feature the theme of “Superheroes.” Kids will be able to interact with Superman, Captain America and more. The event will also spotlight local superheroes, like police officers, firefighters, doctors and veterans.

“We’ve done ‘Star Wars’ before, we’ve done Disney Princesses, we’ve done ‘Halloween Town,’” Wills said. “So we rotate themes. We have all of our people who work with us and for us dress up and we provide costuming. And this year, we decided to do superheroes.”

Wills said that Batman fans, in particular, are going to want to come out to “Hocus Pocus.”

“We have an awesome new Batsignal and a Batmobile, which will be really fun this year,” she said.

Wills is also excited to pay tribute to Rexburg’s superheroes.

“We’ll have a firetruck here with our local law enforcement,” she said. “We’re really excited, and they’ve been super supportive and they’ll be handing out candy. Recognizing our local heroes is super important. We’ve got a big group of veterans who will be here and handing out candy, too. We’re so excited that they’ve been so supportive and are willing to come be a part of this event.”

“Hocus Pocus” also has something special for those who love the Disney cult classic film of the same name.

“We have The Sanderson Sisters (of ‘Hocus Pocus’ movie fame) on a huge stage, and they’re dressed up, and everything’s decorated and they perform,” said Wills.

Along with all of this, there will be a costume parade with cash prizes, face painting and a climbing wall. An arachnid club from Madison Junior High School will be bringing out an exhibit of spiders and snakes. There will be plenty of food vendors on site and much more.

“Superheroes @ Hocus Pocus” scares up the fun this Friday, Oct. 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. pm at Hemming Village in Rexburg. Wills is hopeful the weather will cooperate.

“Trying to hold these outdoor events with Idaho weather is always a challenge, but everything has always worked out before, so we’re hoping the weather will hold through Friday,” she said. “If we can not have rain or wind, we can do just about anything.”
