WATCH: We get mean (and really bizarre) comments

THE COMMENT SECTION — Admit it. You read them. The good, the bad, the ones that make you go, ‘Huh?’

Of course I’m talking about comments on EastIdahoNews.com and our social media pages.

They’re places where you can share your opinions about news of the day, read what other commenters think about issues and there’s certainly no shortage of people who are passionate about their opinions. Many EastIdahoNews.com users say reading the comments has taught them a few things and given them more than a few laughs.

Thousands of comments are posted weekly on East Idaho News stories and our Facebook and YouTube pages. Our moderator (lovingly referred to as the mom-erator) works around the clock making sure everyone behaves themselves across our platforms.

In addition to the comments posted publicly, we receive hundreds of emails, private social media messages, phone calls and hand-written letters every week.

Many messages are tips that help us break stories. Others are kind words and compliments. Most are from people voicing their opinions about the news.

Then there are those comments that are, well, just weird and some that are brutally mean. Those are almost always sent anonymously or posted from fake Facebook profiles.

You may have seen Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night comedy sketch with celebrities reading mean tweets about themselves. We’ve tried our own versions in the past and even won an Idaho Press Club award for the video.

While none of us at EastIdahoNews.com are comedians, we again decided to share some of the most interesting comments we’ve received lately. To protect the identity of the commenters, we picked a few random silly aliases and attributed them to the comments unless otherwise noted.

We hope you enjoy. And no matter how much you hate or love us, we couldn’t do our jobs without you and appreciate you visiting — and commenting.
