Meet the candidates for public office in Bonneville County during Town Hall meeting Wednesday

IDAHO FALLS – The public is invited to a Town Hall meeting Wednesday night to hear from candidates running for political office in Bonneville County.

Stand Up For Idaho, a nonpartisan nonprofit that advocates for the “rights, liberties and well-being of all Idaho citizens,” is hosting its weekly Town Hall meeting at the Shilo Inn’s Snake River Event Center at 780 Lindsay Boulevard in Idaho Falls.

Randy Neal and John Malek, who are both running for county prosecutor in the May Republican primary, will be in attendance. Karl Casperson, a candidate for the Bonneville County Commission, will also be there.

SUFI founder and president Doug Toomer tells EastIdahoNews.com this is a chance for candidates to interact with voters and for voters to ask questions.

“We’ll give the candidates about five minutes to tell us why they’re wonderful and why we should vote for them. Then we’ll open it up to the audience to ask questions,” Toomer says.

The meeting will get underway at 6:30 p.m. It’s free to anyone who wants to attend.

Neal was sworn-in as county prosecutor in July 2022 after defeating his opponent in the May primary. His predecessor, Alayne Bean, accepted a new position as Deputy Trial Court Administrator shortly after that, which allowed Neal to take over earlier than planned.

Malek is a local criminal defense attorney.

Casperson is running uncontested for a two-year seat on the county commission. He is a deputy and member of the dive team for the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office. He will replace Roger Christensen, who has served in the position for 30 years.

From now until the primary on May 21, Stand Up For Idaho will host public forums with local candidates. Candidates running for District 32 House and Senate seats will be at the next Town Hall on April 24.
