A man police said barricaded himself inside of an Idaho Falls hotel room and fired at officers is facing a long list of charges.

According to Bonneville County Prosecutor Randy Neal, Robert Alan Flores Jr., of Idaho Falls, who is 45 or 46, has been charged with six counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement officers and unlawful possession of a firearm after Monday’s incident at the Econo Lodge in Idaho Falls. Flores is also charged with misdemeanor resisting officers and trespassing.

Each of the aggravated assault charges carries a maximum 10-year sentence and an additional enhancement penalty of 15 years for using of a firearm, bringing the maximum sentence for each charge up to 25 years. Neal said he would seek a persistent violator enhancement, which could increase the penalty to life in prison.

On Monday, Idaho Falls Police officers were called to Econo Lodge after a tenant refused to leave. Police said Flores and a woman were staying in the room. When they tried to get the pair out, Flores allegedly fired his firearm, a Glock 44 handgun, at officers.

IDAHO FALLS — Police had brought a ballistics shield, as Flores was known to them. Eventually, a SWAT team used a flashbang grenade to distract Flores, entered the room, and took him into custody. The gun was found in the bathroom.

Flores sustained gunshot wounds during the incident and was taken to a local hospital. The woman had left the room sometime before police arrived.

In a news release, Neal said Flores’ criminal history includes more than 50 cases. Flores was already out on bail facing eight other charges in Bonneville and Bingham counties, including battery on a health care worker, and has been involved in three SWAT standoffs in the past three months.

Bond was set at $1 million.
