CRUISIN’ ALONG — It’s not everyday someone is seen riding an electric scooter on a highway, but one man recently made headlines after being caught on camera doing exactly that.

Video shared by ABC7 News Bay Area shows a man on an electric scooter riding in the middle lane of a highway in Amarillo, Texas. There are cars in front of the man, to the side of him and behind him.

The person filming the man on the scooter briefly pans the camera over to their car’s speedometer which clocks the man going about 65 miles per hour.

“A motor-assisted scooter could only be used on roads or highways with a speed limit of 35 mph or lower, according to the Texas Transportation Code,” ABC7 wrote.

But it’s not only the fact the man is cruising around on an electric scooter at a fast pace that has viewers talking, but that he has no protective gear on. The man is seen wearing a t-shirt and shorts, but no safety gear such as a helmet.

“That has gotta be the dumbest thing ever. Even if a scooter can go that fast, the bearings aren’t built for that … then no safety gear?” one comment reads.

Another viewer added, “I have an electric scooter and I would be scared to death to do this.”

While it’s not clear if the man was ever caught by police, the video serves as a reminder of what should not be done when it comes to riding electric scooters.
