Teacher charged with homicide after calling police to report death of son

PASCO, Florida — A Florida mother who is a public school teacher has been charged with homicide after she called 911 to report the death of her son, authorities said.
The Pasco Sheriff’s Office said the call came in around 9:50 a.m. on Sunday. Investigators identified the caller as 40-year-old Justine Mroz, the boy’s mother.
“The suspect, an adult woman and mother of the juvenile, reported the incident to dispatch,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “The manner of death is part of the ongoing investigation.”
Mroz was arrested and charged with second-degree homicide. Authorities have not released information about a possible motive.
According to Pasco County Schools, Mroz is a teacher at West Pasco Education Academy’s Harry Schwettman Campus in Hudson, which serves grades 6–12.
“Pasco County Schools can confirm that Justine Mroz is employed by the district,” officials said in a statement. “She has been arrested by the Pasco Sheriff’s Office and will not be on any school campus. On behalf of the entire Pasco County Schools family, we extend our deepest condolences to all who are grieving. We are deploying crisis teams to provide care and support to those affected by this heartbreaking event.”
