POCATELLO — Idaho State Police is investigating a crash that shut down part of I-15 early Wednesday morning after a semi-truck hit a traffic control vehicle for the second time in less than 24 hours.

The collision happened around 2:30 a.m. on northbound I-15 near Pocatello. ISP says a semi-tractor and trailer slammed into a stationary traffic control truck equipped with a crash attenuator. The impact ripped open the trailer’s side, spilling cargo across the roadway and heavily damaging the work-zone vehicle.

Because of the damage and condition of the load, the right northbound lane and the Exit 73 off-ramp are closed and are expected to remain shut until Wednesday afternoon.

This marks the second traffic-control vehicle struck at the same location since Monday. Another was hit Tuesday, prompting ISP to urge drivers to slow down, stay alert and be prepared for sudden lane changes and diversions in construction areas.

Commuters should expect delays and consider using alternate routes. No serious injuries were reported.
