Miss Idaho for America pageant winner hosting fundraisers for immigrant women in eastern Idaho

IDAHO FALLS — Andrea Schmutz aims to help female immigrants improve their circumstances through a series of fundraisers.
The recent winner of the Miss Idaho for America pageant is hosting three benefit piano recitals over the next month. The first two are happening on April 18 and 25 at The Yellowstone Restaurant at 230 West Bonneville Street in Pocatello. Schmutz will be performing from 6-8 p.m.
Then on May 30, she’ll be performing at Piano Gallery in Idaho Falls at 11 a.m. During the hour-long recital, food baskets will be sold and there will be several gift card giveaways.
Although each event is free, Schmutz is asking those who attend to make a donation. The proceeds from all three events will benefit Empowering Immigrant Women, a Pocatello nonprofit whose mission, according to its Facebook page, is to “inspire refugee and immigrant women in Pocatello.” Her goal is to raise $3,500 to help single immigrant mothers get a formal education.
Schmutz is a Ph.D student of educational leadership and she also works as a college instructor. Although she chose a career in international business and politics, music is her first love. She started playing the piano at age six and studied at the Yahama School of Music and St. Scholastica’s School of Music, both in the Philippines.
In an interview with EastIdahoNews.com, Schmutz explains what drew her to piano early on and what led her to host this fundraiser.
“Music has been at the heart of who I am since I first sat at a piano,” Schmutz says. “That same passion drives this fundraiser. I hope I am able to move and unite people with my love of music.”
Schmutz says the financial support will play a crucial role in having her platform taken to the national level in Las Vegas Nevada, which is slated for the last week of August.
Seating is limited, so those who wish to attend need to make a reservation at (208) 234-7000. Donations can be made via Venmo to Andrea Soleta-Schmutz or through @DayneSchmutz27 on Paypal.
