COEUR D’ALENE — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the date for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temple.
The ceremony will be held Saturday, Aug. 29. Elder Hutch U. Fale of the United States West Area Presidency will preside over the event, according to a news release from the church.
The temple was first announced in 2024 and will become the latest in Idaho with others in Boise, Burley, Idaho Falls, Meridian, Pocatello, Rexburg and Twin Falls.
Temples are also under construction in Caldwell and Rexburg (The Teton River Temple) and the Montpelier Temple is set to be dedicated on Oct. 18.
Church leaders say temples are built to provide places where members can participate in sacred ceremonies and make covenants with God.
“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is constructing temples all over the world,” President Dallin H. Oaks said in a recent general conference. “Their purpose is to bless the covenant children of God with temple worship and with the sacred responsibilities and powers and unique blessings of being bound to Christ they receive by covenant.”
More than 480,000 members of the church live in Idaho with approximately 1,300 congregations.
