Philbin Road wreck causes major July 4 power outage

POCATELLO — Nearly 2,500 Idaho Power customers were left without electricity after a July 4 crash on Philbin Road.
Idaho Power officials confirmed that a vehicle struck a power pole, causing an outage that affected approximately 2,490 customers in the Pocatello and Chubbuck area.
The outage began at 8:42 p.m., and power was restored to most customers by 2:32 a.m. July 5.
“We appreciate our customers’ patience with this extended outage over the holiday weekend,” Idaho Power officials said.
A number of meters were also damaged in the incident, and crews are continuing to replace them. Idaho Power expects repairs to be completed within the next several days.
Chesney Price, the driver’s mother, identified her son as 18-year-old Kayden Price. She later posted an update in the public Facebook group Life in Pocatello, saying he had been hospitalized and would remain there “for some time.”
“I just wanted to let everyone know how my son is doing since so many people are asking,” Price wrote. “He has been admitted to the hospital and will be there for some time. He is deeply sorry for the damage he caused.”
Price also said her son’s drug and alcohol tests came back clean and apologized for the disruption caused by the crash.
