‘The seasoning of my heart:’ Local twins offer popular and fun Mexican cuisine near you

IDAHO FALLS — After buying a food truck to bring their food to more people, El Sazon de mi Corazon offers popular Mexican dishes — some with a fun twist — down by the Idaho Falls Greenbelt Riverwalk.
Started by twins and co-owners Priscilla and Giselle Sanchez, El Sazon de mi Corazon (translated as ‘the seasoning of my heart’) has been serving Mexican and Mexican-inspired dishes for several years.
The food truck is often located on Memorial Drive, right next to the Greenbelt, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, with a break at midday. After the break, they’re back serving orders from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Each day they’re open, the menu will see some changes. Giselle said this is to ensure community members have something new to try each day, with some items being a constant mainstay.
Priscilla said the name of the food truck reflects their passion for what they do, and that going with a food truck allows them to bring their food to more people.
EastIdahoNews.com sampled some of their best dishes. The first option we tried was their loaded fries.
The fries are topped with your choice of meat — asada, adobada, chicken or birria — covered in pico de gallo, salsa, crema fresca and queso fresco. All I can say is this dish was very tasty. The French fries are crispy, and the pico de gallo, crema fresca and queso fresco blended so well with each other.
The second option was their totchos, similar to their loaded fries but with tots.
Again, the tots were crispy and shared many of the same ingredients as the loaded fries. Overall, if you are choosing between these and the fries, tots will always outclass fries, in my opinion.
The third dish I tried was their torta with carnitas.
The torta was very savory and delicious, and the bread is often what makes a torta what it is. Priscilla said they use telera made fresh in the city, and it’s very flavorful on its own. This is a must-try for those looking for other Mexican dishes.
The last couple of options were their drinks and desserts: homemade Brazilian limeade and Dubai chocolate-covered strawberries.
The limeade is the perfect summer drink for those looking to try something different from just lemonade. It’s creamy, yet very refreshing for these coming hot summer days.
Regarding the Dubai chocolate-covered strawberries, this was my first time liking this type of dish. I’ve never been a fan of Dubai chocolate, but this was sweet and didn’t have such a pistachio taste that dominates the dessert.
Overall, El Sazon de mi Corazon lives up to its namesake with the food the Sanchez Twins offer. It’s tasty, sweet and refreshing regardless of the weather outside.
