Heise Road closed due to mudslides from heavy rainfall

HEISE — A road closure has been ordered due to mudslides caused by heavy rainfall in Jefferson County on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Heise Road at the Snake River Bridge on 5050 East has been closed.
The Big Rock Fire has created a burn scar, meaning an area where there is no vegetation to keep rocks and soil on the hillside when they are hit by a deluge of water.
Residents in the area are encouraged to stay inside, avoid the area and stay off the ridge above the Heise area.
More rain is in the forecast, and officials say they are expecting worsening conditions.
