Argument over potato trucks lands man in jail

ABERDEEN — A dispute over private property and potato trucks resulted in the arrest of a man accused of nearly running over a homeowner.
According to court documents, deputies with the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Tuesday near the intersection of Fairview Road and West 2100 South after a report was made involving an assault.
The homeowner told deputies the suspect, identified as Jordan Christopher Gehring, 45, had driven from the area.
The homeowner said that during potato harvesting, potato trucks have repeatedly used his driveway to park while traffic passes on the road. During one of these incidents, the homeowner confronted the driver, who apologized and left.
Later, he saw a Ford F-150 drive from the fields south of his home and park on the side of the road. The driver was Gehring, and the homeowner approached him.
There, they had an argument, and according to the homeowner, Gehring pulled off the road and parked on the man’s property.
The deputy who wrote the report said skid marks on the driveway showed Gehring maneuvered his truck aggressively and drifted onto the property.
The homeowner said the truck, a Ford F-150, nearly struck him. He then walked up to the rear of the vehicle when Gehring got out.
Gehring allegedly told the homeowner, “Do you know who the f*** I am?” and shoved him.
The homeowner then told Gehring that he was going to get his gun and walked away towards a shop on the property, and by the time he got back, Gehring had left.
While documenting the scene, deputies determined the homeowner was 5 feet from Gehring’s truck. The homeowner said he was in fear for his life.
When asked about Gehring’s speed, the homeowner responded, “Oh, he was moving.”
Deputies spoke with Gehring, who said he had seen the homeowner confront one of his drivers and decided to confront him.
Gehring said he met the homeowner on the roadway, and they argued back and forth, with the homeowner telling Gehring to come onto his property.
The document states Gehring told deputies he “whipped right in his driveway.”
Getting out of his truck, he asked the homeowner if he knew who he was, but the owner told him he would be shot. Understanding the threat, Gehring decided to leave the property.
Gehring denied he had nearly struck the other man with his pickup truck.
Gehring was later placed into custody and booked into the Bingham County Jail on one count of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon enhancement.
Gehring has been appointed a public defender. The Idaho State Public Defender’s Office does not comment on active cases.
His preliminary hearing will be held on Oct. 8 at 8:30 a.m. at the Bingham County Courthouse.
Although Gehring has been accused of a crime, that does not necessarily mean he committed it. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty. If he is found guilty, he faces up to five years in prison, with the enhancement adding an additional 15 years to the final sentence.
