Neighbors and delivery person awaken sleeping family during early morning house fire

IDAHO FALLS — A delivery person and several neighbors alerted an Idaho Falls family early Thursday morning after seeing their house on fire.
According to a news release from the Idaho Falls Fire Department, firefighters responded to a house fire on East 25th Street after receiving a call at approximately 5:25 a.m. reporting flames at a home and an engulfed garage, with people possibly still inside.
Crews arrived on scene to find smoke and fire coming from the garage. According to the release, neighbors and a delivery person had awakened the family and helped them evacuate the residence. A neighbor also assisted one of the children out of the basement.
Firefighters began attacking the fire in the garage and were told by witnesses that a family member might still be inside. Crews entered the home to conduct a search-and-rescue operation but found no one inside, confirming that all family members had already evacuated.
Crews continued attacking the fire as it progressed into the attic, the exterior of the home, and along the garage wall.
Once the fire was extinguished, crews conducted overhaul and salvage operations to ensure the fire was fully out and to protect the family’s belongings.
Idaho Falls Power and Intermountain Gas responded to secure utilities at the residence. Chaplains, we were also called to the scene to assist the family with relocation.
No injuries were reported. Crews say the cause and circumstances of the fire remain under investigation.
