AMMON — If the Great Pumpkin were to show up, it would likely be here. A festive eastern Idaho fall tradition is returning this weekend, bringing plenty of Halloween spirit and family-friendly fun to Ammon.
The annual Ammon Pumpkin Walk kickoff takes place Saturday, Oct. 17, from noon to 3 p.m. at McCowin Park, 3000 Southwick Lane. Now in its 15th year, the popular event is free and open to the public.
Visitors can enjoy more than 40 creative pumpkin displays put together by local businesses, churches and community organizations, along with giant pumpkins that are sure to impress.

The afternoon festivities will also feature free train rides, a pumpkin pie-eating contest, food vendors, music and plenty of opportunities to celebrate the fall season.
“We can’t wait to see everyone out and the weather is supposed to be much warmer,” said organizer Randal Miller. “If you can’t make it out the day of the event, pumpkin displays and giant pumpkins will remain at the park through Halloween, and are free to view.”
Eagle Rock Sanitation presents the event, with support from several local sponsors.
Miller praised the many local businesses, churches and organizations whose contributions have helped make the Pumpkin Walk a community tradition for the past 15 years.
For those who can’t make Saturday’s kickoff, there’s still plenty of time to get into the Halloween spirit. The pumpkin displays and giant pumpkins will remain at McCowin Park through Oct. 31, giving families two more weeks to enjoy the festive creations at their leisure.
