AMMON — The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office has released additional information about a lockdown at Cloverdale Elementary School early Wednesday morning.

According to a news release from the BCSO, at around 8:15 a.m., the elementary school was placed into a brief lockdown after reports were made of possible gunshots near the school.

As deputies began to investigate the reports, it was determined that employees of a nearby business had lit fireworks to scare off some birds from a warehouse. Deputies also confirmed that there was no threat to the school.

A search of the school and area around it was done as a safety precaution, and classes resumed back to normal by 9 a.m.

“It’s important for parents to understand that when a school is placed into a lockdown status, all doors and classrooms are locked, and no one is allowed to move in or out of the building until the area is secure,” the release states. “Because no one is allowed to enter or leave during a lockdown event, it is always recommended that parents stay clear of the area and wait for official messaging from the school about the status of a situation.”

The release also includes information for parents who are curious about understanding emergency procedures at school, which can be accessed at www.schoolsafety.idaho.gov. Parents are also recommended to contact their local schools or the BCSO if they have more questions.
