REXBURG — The incumbent in District 34 will hold his seat as voters overwhelmingly supported the veteran legislator Tuesday.

According to VoteIdaho.gov, unofficial numbers at 11:30 p.m. show Doug Ricks had received 7,240 votes, while Democratic Candidate Ethan Sanford obtained 1721 votes. This is with 15 precincts partially reporting and 6 not reporting at the time of publication.

The fifth-generation resident of Madison County was first elected as a state senator for District 34 in 2020 and previously served as a representative. This will be his fourth term serving the residents of District 34.

Ricks told EastIdahoNews.com that he wanted to thank District 34 constituents for re-electing him and said it would be an honor to serve as their voice in Boise again.

“I’m ready to get back to work for our community. Madison County is full of great people, and I look forward to representing your values and ideals in the Legislature,” Ricks said.

District 34 is comprised of all of Madison County.
