Jennifer Lopez Has a New Species of Water Mite Named After Her
Published at(PODGORICA, Montenegro) — Jennifer Lopez’s music touches many people in many different ways. Recently a group of scientists named a new species of water mite they discovered near Puerto Rico after her.
University of Montenegro biologist Vladimir Pesic explains that “J-Lo’s songs and videos kept the team in a continuous good mood when writing the manuscript [on their findings] and watching World Cup Soccer 2014.”
He notes that while he and other scientists rooted for different teams during the World Cup, they could all connect with Lopez’s music.
Pesic calls the gesture a small token of gratitude to J-Lo, who has Puerto Rican roots.
It’s actually not unusual. Over the years, scientists have named dozens of organisms after famous people to honor them. Mick Jagger has a type of trilobite named after him, a spider was named after Bono and a marine parasite found in the Caribbean sea was named after Bob Marley.
