Pocatello Mayor Wants to Raise Gas Tax
Published at(POCATELLO, ID) — Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad wants to raise the state gas tax. Blad tells KPVI that the gas tax has remained the same for several years, but the need to fix Pocatello’s streets hasn’t gone away. He’s lobbied all of Idaho’s legislators to bring up the issue for debate, but nothing has materialized. The Mayor says fixing the roads is crucial to promoting economic development around the state. Idahoans currently pay $0.25 in taxes per gallon of gasoline or diesel, a rate that was set in 1996.
